students

As a student, you can choose between three different tracks: Cowriting, Open composition, and Performance. Each track has a distinct focus area where you can develop skills and collaborate with others. The different tracks also include various events, workshops, and showcase events.
Read more about the different tracks below.

Cowriting

The cowriting track focuses on contemporary popular music production. This track is especially suited for students that identify as producers, topline-writers, vocalists or songwriters. Students will work in groups of 3-4 students. The week will consist of two writes and two listening sessions with feedback.

Open composition

This track focuses on composing, improvising, and performing non-vocal-driven music. It is designed for composers, electronic musicians, instrumentalists, and vocalists interested in vocal processing. Students will collaborate in groups of 3–4 to create and perform new works in a concert setting.

Performance

A track that focuses on performing existing and new material in dialogue with an artist in residence. This track is suited for performers, vocalists and electronic musicians. The students will work in bands of 5 – 7 students and perform covers as well as write new material inspired by the artists in residence.

"Finding the 'Better' in Music Production and Songwriting" with Joel Hamilton

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 12:30-14:00 // HOVEDSALEN BARE

In this masterclass, Joel Hamilton—a New York-based, multi-platinum-selling, multi-Grammy-nominated producer, mixer, engineer, and songwriter—reflects on aesthetic decision-making in music production and songwriting. What does "better" mean in this context, and how can it be achieved? By tracing the journey from demo to the top of the Billboard charts, Hamilton examines how production choices and technology shape a song’s impact and its ability to connect with broader audiences. In conversation with Ingvild Koksvik, singer, song-maker, and researcher at CreaTeME, he will also share insights from his collaboration with Paul McCartney and Rick Rubin, including the rare opportunity to access every individual track in The Beatles’ legendary catalog.

Inspiration Session with Lars Kristian Rosness

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 09:00-10:30 // HOVEDSALEN BARE

Join producer and songwriter Lars Kristian Rosness for a deep dive into his electronic popular music production practice. With writing and production credits for artists like Alan Walker, Chris Holsten, Emelie Hollow, and Julie Bergan, Lars Kristian Rosness brings a wealth of experience to the session. Discover his creative process—from setting up sessions to collaborating with other topliners, producers and vocalists. Gain insights into his approach to aesthetic ideals in production, hear real examples from past projects, and pick up valuable tips on collaboration. This workshop is ideal for aspiring producers, topliners, and artists interested in collaborative songwriting and production.

Improvising with and through music technology I

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25

10:30-12:30 // BLACKBOX BARE

13:00-14:30 // HOVEDSALEN BARE

14:30-16:00 // HOVEDSALEN BARE

In this workshop, presenters will share specific strategies and setups for improvising both solo and collaboratively. The workshop will showcase hybrid setups that combine traditional instruments with laptops, as well as laptop-centered configurations. We’ll explore techniques for real-time sound manipulation, integrating live sampling, and working with both acoustic and digital sonic materials to create and shape soundscapes. The goal is to inspire and expand the toolbox for electronic musicians, composers, and performers, broadening their repertoire of improvisational and compositional strategies with and through music technology in collaborative settings.

Q&A with Bel Canto

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 10:00-12:00 // SAL 2 @ UIA

This session delves into the creative dynamics of vocal performance and artistic development. Anneli Drecker and Nils Johansen of Bel Canto will discuss their innovative music-making, blending dream pop, technology, and multi-instrumentalism. Hosted by Hilde Norbakken, co-leader of CreaTeMe and educator, the session invites students and teachers to engage with Drecker and Johansen about their musical journey and Bel Canto’s evolving sound. The dialogue will explore vocal techniques, genre exploration, and the role of collaboration and technology in their music. This is an opportunity to gain valuable insights into vocal artistry, performance, and songwriting.
