CreaTeME-friday on the 1st of November at BARE studenthus / Kraftverk: AI on stage and in the studio

The CreaTeME Friday event at BARE Studenthus Kraftverk on November 1st invited participants into an engaging exploration of artificial intelligence in the performing arts. Hosted by Steinar Jeffs, the day included a variety of performances, presentations, and discussions surrounding AI’s potential roles on stage and in the studio, examining how artists can creatively interact with this technology.

Alessandra Bossa kicked off the event with an improvisational performance featuring live electronics and machine learning. Her presentation delved into the fusion of human and machine elements, considering how memory and synthetic sounds can reshape musical expression. This exploration aimed to bridge classical and modern techniques with cutting-edge technology.

Dr. Esther Fee Reinhardt, delivering her lecture online, presented “AI in the Creative Process: Roles and Limitations.” Her talk dissected the ways AI can enhance or fall short in creative projects, especially in areas requiring human nuance. Reinhardt discussed parallels between human and AI creativity, offering insights into when AI integration is most beneficial and when human intuition remains vital.

After lunch, Anders Tveit presented “Klangen av Fremtiden?”, part of a research project on AI-driven live electronics. His work, in collaboration with violinist Victoria Johnson, examines how AI and machine learning can become interactive instruments, blending human improvisation with responsive digital systems.

Finally, the CreaTeME student team showcased original AI-assisted compositions, sharing their innovative approaches to creating music with new AI tools. This event, open to all and offering a complimentary lunch, provided a unique platform for attendees to engage with AI-driven art and discuss the future of technology in music.
