CreaTeME at the University of Agder, recently held an inspiring masterclass with Erik Ljunggren
Asscociate Professor Erik Ljunggren is one of Norway’s most influential producers, mixers, and musicians. Ljunggren, who is an associate professor at UiA, has an extensive career as a musician and producer with contributions to some of the country’s most renowned bands, including a-ha, Bel Canto, and Satyricon. He also created the music and sound design for the film Gritt, for which he was nominated for the Amanda Award.
The masterclass, held on UiA’s campus, provided students with an opportunity to dive deep into music production, sound design, and professional development within the music industry with focus his productions with Simple Minds and a-ha. Ljunggren shared insights into his creative processes, particularly around his role as musical director and keyboardist for a-ha, and discussed how live performances require a combination of technical skill and creativity. He also shared experiences from his latest role as keyboardist for the Scottish band Simple Minds, where he combines his extensive experience in live and studio production.
Through practical examples and studio demonstrations, students were invited to ask questions and explore their own musical ideas under Ljunggren’s guidance. CreaTeME focuses on creating such learning opportunities to strengthen skills within the creative industries, and Erik Ljunggren’s visit provided participants with valuable perspectives on working at an international level.
