Artists in Residence Live Performance: O-JANÀ (It) – A Transcendent Musical Journey at UiA

Today at UiA Italian duo O-JANÀ, delivered an eerie, experimental, and beautiful performance with impressive vocals that inspired the audience. The artists were in perfect sync, effortlessly showcasing their natural chemistry, and the music transcended genres, offering a truly unique and memorable experience.

Close your eyes and let the music take you to different places in your mind. O-JANÀ combined many techniques, from classical to more experimental vocal styles. This kept the audience engaged, never knowing what would come next. The seamless crossfades between songs introduced new pieces naturally, creating diverse audio landscapes without any interruptions.

Unfortunately, there weren’t many attendees, and those who missed it truly lost out on a listening experience worth your time.

The duo, consisting of Alessandra Bossa and Ludovica Manzo, has a long history, dating back to 2010 in Swede. This bond was evident in their communication throughout the concert. The chemistry and synergy were mesmerising to watch.

Today, they played two and a half of their own songs, live integrating improvisations into the mix. They remix their material live every time, ensuring their music is always fresh and different. This makes every O-JANÀ concert truly unique.

The vocals performed today were samples from other works, so the vocal melodies were not original for the songs they played. They structure the music somewhat but still allowing it to flow freely within that. It was a free form but with structure.

During this residency in Kristiansand, they worked in depth with sonic elements rather than songs, exploring how to control spatial awareness with sound, using 3D conceptual thinking and spherical music.

O-JANÀ always strives to create hybrid sounds and explore the infinite possibilities two people and two machines can make. Some aspects of music cannot be learned; they must be experienced organically.
