Breaking Boundaries in Music Research: MOST WANTED: MUSIC 2023 Unveils Cutting-Edge Insights

Berlin, November 16, 2023

– MOST WANTED: MUSIC 2023, hosted at the iconic Kulturbrauerei Berlin, has emerged as a pivotal event in the Berlin music industry, showcasing a dynamic convergence of musicians, researchers, industry professionals, and labels. The three-day extravaganza, held from November 14-16, witnessed an array of voices, perspectives, and expertise, with a spotlight on the session moderated by Matthias Jung, Research Fellow at the University of Agder.

Jung’s session, titled “What’s New in Music Research? Connect with Research Centers and Initiatives,” featured a distinguished panel of speakers:

Irina Ilieva: CEO, Junior Achievement Bulgaria

Lorena-Carla Junghans: Manager, Impact Producer, Founder, Innovator at KINDA

Beate Flath: Professor at the University of Paderborn, Germany

Alessandra Bossa: Assistant Professor, University of Agder – CreaTeMe

The session turned the spotlight on some of Europe’s most innovative Research Centers – CreTeME, C:POP, and CIRCE. Each presenter delved into their organization’s current agendas and collaboration opportunities during concise 10-minute presentations.

Common values resonated across these organizations, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, creative industries, well-being, transcultural and transdisciplinary approaches, co-creation, and participation in the context of digital media and research.

Moreover, the session underscored the significance of viewing music business research as an integral part of music culture research.

CreTeME, in particular, offered a deep dive into its structure, values, activities, and the pivotal role of its physical space, the LAB, as a collaborative hub within the community. The emphasis was on fostering a dynamic and non-hierarchical pedagogy, where students and teachers alike assumed diverse roles, creating a cooperative environment in Kristiansand.

The initiative actively promoted ongoing international collaboration, emphasizing the importance of cultivating enduring relationships rather than merely building networks.

Attendees at MOST WANTED: MUSIC 2023 expressed palpable enthusiasm for humanizing the music industry, integrating new technologies thoughtfully, and fostering a collaborative ecosystem that resonates with the harmonies of creativity, curiosity, and community.

The event demonstrated the industry’s commitment to breaking boundaries in music research, paving the way for a more interconnected and innovative future.
