New “When I” video episode: Live Electronics: Experimenting, Playing, Improvising – Alessandra Bossa On Music Making Combining Classical and Electronic Music
Hosted at BARE, Kraftverk and organized by Kristian Isachsen, the workshop “Collective Creativity and Live Composition” took place on January 29-30, 2025. The workshop aimed to offer students a space to explore, innovate, and shape sound on their own terms.
Classical music students brought small segments from pieces they enjoy, ostinatos, intriguing melodies, and other prepared material to be recontextualized in a new musical setting. Together with the Live Electronics students, they used their material and skills to compose and produce tracks collaboratively over the course of the workshop days.
The workshop was led by Isachsen, a teacher in the Live Electronics program, who has extensive experience as an electronic musician and has collaborated with classical musicians, including live-remixing Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra (KSO) several times.
Mariam Kharatyan, Associate Professor at the Department of Classical Music, joined the first workshop day to share her experiences collaborating with electronic musicians and to provide feedback and support during the composition process.
