Participation in industry events like By:Larm is an integral part of our educational approach, providing our students with invaluable exposure to the real-world workings of the music industry.
Participating in industry events is essential for students pursuing careers in fields as dynamic and multifaceted as music business and management. Such events offer students real-world insights, opportunities to interact with industry professionals, and a chance to broaden their network. Student Perspectives
Some students shared their impressions and takeaways from their participation in By:Larm:
“During a conversation with the CEO of a company deeply involved in rights management, I gained valuable insights that transcend traditional classroom learning. He discussed a nuanced perspective on acquiring rights, emphasizing the importance of individuals who not only comprehend the cultural and artistic value of rights but also recognize music as a commodity.” – Tobias Torvholm Sævik
“One of the main takeaways I’ve gotten from By:Larm is the connections I can make during the event. Witnessing and hearing from professionals who have established themselves in the industry gives me a chance to either find myself wanting to pursue a similar path as them or somehow connect my current path with what they have shared.” – Maria Conchita

“By:Larm was an excellent opportunity to meet people with practical insights regarding the topics we are taught at UiA. At UiA we are provided a solid theoretical understanding of how the music industry works, but By:Larm presented the opportunity to meet and conversate with people who work with these topics every day and have experience with them that you can’t gain through theory.” – Torgeir Villanger
“Participating in By:larm was an enriching experience that significantly broadened my insights, network, and knowledge about the music industry. Engaging with industry professionals and fellow enthusiasts provided me with a nuanced understanding of current trends and practices that go beyond the scope of traditional academic learning.” – Aninder Singh Malhi
The participation of our students at BY:larm underscores the importance of industry events in education. It offers students a platform to connect theory with practice, broaden their perspectives, and establish invaluable connections in the music industry. These experiences contribute to their academic development and prepare them for successful careers in music business and management.
